Umaibo: The Ultimate Corn Puff

Inexpensive, colorfully packaged, and oh so yummy, Umaibo is a Japanese snack like no other.

This corn puff snack is an iconic treat that's been around since the 70s. It’s time we had a big bite of Umaibo with the help of Japan Candy Box!

What Makes Umaibo The Best Dagashi

If you haven’t heard of Umaibo, imagine a long stick-shaped corn puff covered in the yummiest seasonings. It's puffy, it's crunchy, and it has a deliciousness which makes you go "umai!” with every bite. Umaibo literally means tasty stick in Japanese with “umai” being “delicious” and “bo” meaning “stick.”

A fan-favorite among Japanese snackers, this yummy corn stick has been dubbed as the king of dagashi or cheap snacks in Japan. Not only are Umaibo sticks addictive, they’re also affordable treats. Your Japanese snacking experience wouldn’t be complete without a stick of Umaibo!

Tasting All The Umai-Flavors Of Umaibo

One of the things that makes Umaibo the king of dagashi is that it has more than 60 different flavors for snackers to binge on. That includes savory yakitori (grilled chicken skewers), tonkatsu sauce (the sauce used in Japanese pork cutlet), ramen, and even chicken curry!

Besides its tastiness, one of the reasons why Japan loves Umaibo so much is because of its cute mascot, Umaemon. Though he looks like the anime cat Doraemon, this cat-like being is actually an alien from outer space. He has a human-like sister named Umami-chan.
